NJ Delaware River, Standing Wave
Marker Description: The Standing Wave @ Scudders Falls, NJ is a great place to surf on a bodyboard or on a small surf board, the best place to get into the wave is from the rocks on the Jersey side rather than the island side where the kayakers line up. From NJ side you need to approach from behind the wave and skim up an over the foam into the wave, from island side you need to drift in an paddle - much more difficult.

The USGS Trenton Gage height should be around 10.0 for surfing check: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?01463500

This is the sickness - Jersey river surfing - watch out it's addictive.

You can just park at the top off Rte 29, not a mile away, more like a hundred feet, easy eagles, no worries, check the gauge as stated in the main description, happy surfing, give the kayakers a run for their money, yo.

Hey, was planning on visiting soon but was not sure where to park/hike to get to the wave now. Anyone have better directions and/or seen how the wave is breaking recently?

I drove all the way up to Scudders Falls today, just to find that the bridge entrance to the State Park was closed off and under construction! Found an entrance at the south end, but didn't feel like hiking a mile with my surfboard. Anybody know when the construction is going to be done?

Sickenin' I need a prescription for the water I swallowed, ha, ha, just kidding I sucked down some yoohoo water but had a coke and that killed whatever was in my gut - Coke is it, you can't beat the real thing, can't beat the feeling of the wave - foo even if you have to drink a little fertilizer and human fecal mattah. Jerzey Style!

Gauge height at 10.3 on this day. Rocks have changed since last time I was here - 4 years ago - too long! Now you can just skim over the foam and it pulls you across to the pocket. Easier to catch but not as much of a wave as there once was, now more of a tumbling wash but much wider. Maybe it's not the exact right height -maybe a little lower would be better.
