NJ Phillipsburg Loop Trail
Marker Description: This is the trail head of the Phillipsburg Loop trail which heads down a little steep and meanders down to a cinder road. Once on the cinder road you can head north or south and turn towards the river to walk along the railroad tracks to complete the loop. The trail goes through about 30 acres of land and there are a good number of deer. It is a good local spot to walk your dog. No difficulty, the full loop is maybe a mile and a half. This trail is used by mountain bikers, dirt bikers and snow mobilers.

Not a place to go out of your way to come to for hiking, more of a local spot.

Walked the loop trail and found a lot surprises. The trail is great because there are so many off shoots that are well worn. Something cool about the piles of garbage and homeless campsites here and there, if you're into that thing, atwixt the natural gems. The best surprise was finding wild pees, raspberries and what looks to be blueberries. Not sure about the blueberries, check my pics and let me know. The wild garden was just off the main loop to the right of the main entrance where the marker is placed.

Unfortunately the raspberries have not faired well in this area, many plants wilted and where the raspberries are in they are small and not as tasty as in years past. But, it is still a bit early.

The other main surprise it that the large old industrial building is completely gone. This thing was huge. So, this piece of property, which is private, may be on its way to development sooner rather than later. But, the real estate values are still so low I think the wild pees and homeless still have a few more years.

Took the loop yesterday and hit pay dirt with raspberries. Me and my girlfriend filled half a huge zip lock, we just picked the easiest ones but there are berries all over. We saw the start of some blackberries but none yet ripe.

The raspberries are thick down by the football field and along the winding trails heading up the hill. I did walk the full trail, i.e. loop around along the railroad tracks.

Scared a few bedding deer.

I took me dog TBJ out for a walk and we saw three deer. It was a nice blue hue at dusk with the snow:)
