NJ Whippany River, Highway 510
Marker Description: Whippany River pull off of County 510 Highway with trout stocked waters sign. The Creek is down a short path past some round concrete pipes. There are a lot of native browns in every in all places more than three feet deep. Many stretched that are shallow but then some good holes and overhangs as well as downed trees and log jams.

The Patriot Path winds along the stream so some bikers whiz by and the road can be heard but this is some pristine native brown fishing.

An awesome stream full of life and most importantly native trout.

Fished with my Dad and I caught four native browns downstream from the pull off. The first pool where the huge cement ring pipes are in the water we saw a number of trout and suckers. I went downstream and saw a whole f' load of natives and caught a nice 13 inch brown under a long slow pool with a deep undercut bank. I missed probably ten or so on my small rainbow style panther martin.

Surprisingly my dad had no luck upstream and saw nothing even though he had polarized glasses. The Patriot trail runs very close to the stream so maybe there was that much more fishing pressure but I saw so many trout it is hard to believe that they are not in the upper stretch as well.

Overall is this a sick good native stream and we only covered a short stretch in the afternoon not at prime time. Check it aout.

See pics - but none of the River b/c I only had my iphone and one drop in the water is enough for one year.
