NJ Pequest River, Belvidere
Marker Description: This is one of he spots on the Pequest River that the Division of Fish and Game really unloads a full truck. Normally there are two thousand or so trout here on opening day of trout season and a few breeders. The banks are lined with fisherman, directly behind the laudramat there is a ledge that holds fish but they spread out all along the tail end of this pool.

Opener 2013 not as sick as last year but 35 between me and my Dad. Above the dam on the bar side had more of the action. Some nice 19 to 22 brookies were pulled out. I caught one but it was a foul hooked so it doesn't really count. We released them all. in years past the fish were holding in the center whereas this year they were all to the bar side. Whatever, same old shoulder to shoulder nice people situation in Belvidere.

Clear water and low levels made for a great Opening Day 2012 - was crazy the number of fish above the dam at this location, a lot of the usual suspects. There was a school of trout between me and my Dad we caught a 100; stopped counting. It is a bit of a clown show but also a lot of fun. Not as many people as in years past, not as many tents and barbecues and what not. Spinners, trout magnets and finally midges caught them. Of course people were also using bait.

You could just see the school and then ten fish or more would fight over whatever you tossed and that lasted for over two hours. VIntage classic shoulder to shoulder opener.

Big trout were hanging in the deep hole directly behind the landramat. I wasn't fishing, just stopped by to see 'em. In a few they will be ready to fight. Hopefully, the rain tonight will spread 'em out.

Wanted to start 2010 here with my girlfreind, Uncle and cousin but it was way crowded - my Unc and Cous bailed and headed back to the Raritan, the real problem wasn't the crowd but the muddy and high water. People had little luck which bodes well for the Pequest in town for the next few weeks. Good news for people who want to fish for the next few weeks. Once the water clears the Pequest will be loaded!
