Wild fish in big numbers - "Two winters ago we had a phenomenal year class of wild trout. The fall flows were high which helped get fish into their spawning grounds and then the winter was warm and the water levels dropped to fairly low. Fish hatched out earlier and had ample food and higher metabolisms due to warm, low water all winter and into early spring of 2012. Those are the small 4" - 7" wild fish we are catching this year."

Fished today with an assortment of flies, caught four native browns on a muddler minnow, black mini trout magnet, two on a prince. All were small under ten inches except for a beaut of a 14 inch brown that gave four sweet leaps. The natives were caught upstream. There are a few good holes but mostly shallow runs for the 300 yards that I went upstream. The bridge was quite a sight, it was stocked with 300 or so trout and three nice breeders over twenty, a circle of fishermen and no fish were caught but a few. By the time I got back to the bridge everyone was gone and the fish were still there. I threw everything from dries to wets, nothing. Tomorrow morning early will be quite a situation. Think ing of going and throwing a little metal to see if I can get the big boys to take. It is still only 7 maybe back at dusk. Probably not, I'm beat. Still fun to see them swimming all around with the monsters chasing the little guys. I tried to get a good photo but the glare was ruing the shots, see the one I got with my polarized sunglasses over my phone, you can see the fish all over but can't really tell what it is.

Pulled off next to the bridge and immediately saw 20 or so suckers and 1o or so trout with hundreds of small minnows. I spooked a few of the trout under the bridge and couldn't get the others to strike. The sun was high on the water. Regardless, I was surprised at the number of big trout up to 14 inches and the quantity in plain sight from the bridge. I will be back to explore.
