PA Brodhead, Above Junction w/ McMichaels
Marker Description: The Brodhead just above its junction with the McMicheals Creek is a fast moving shoot, in a made-made canyon of sorts created by the storm control mounds on both sides. This section of water has a western meadow feel and is quite beautiful. This shoot is heavily stocked with trout for opening day. Any boulder to shield the fast flow is a good place to find fish. Also the tail of this shoot slows and deepens before the junction with the McMichaels.

The best place to park is the Walmart parking lot and a short climb over the storm burm to the river.

Climbed over the Walmart grassy burm and fished from the discharge down to the junction pool with the McMichaels and caught one nice brown - see pic and missed another fish with a big yellow flash. Didn't have time to descend into the canyon. Water clarity was great and the river was at normal levels - see pic.

Fished yesterday and the trout were rising all over the place taking tan flies off the surface. Tried elk hair caddis and all other varieties of tan flys and parachute emergers with no luck. Switched to nymphs and finally caught one nice rainbow on a small RS2 type midge. See photo with nymph in mouth.

When the fish are rising all over the place it lets you know just how many fish you fishing over. I was surprised how many fish were all over the place and how few hits I was getting. Like I said nothing on the surface but I did have two hits I missed on the nymph dropper combo I was using.

The fish sure give a great fight in the rumble of the Broadhead.

Fished with my Dad and caught 4 small rainbows, all on a trout magnet, nothing doing on my caddis puppa dropper. I also missed quite a few. After fishing in New Jersey, the PA rainbows are quite good fighters. Also, a lot of fast water for the fish to work with.

My Dad went down and fished below the junction with the McMichaels with no luck. But he caught some fish earlier on the McMichaels and had a 25 plus brown swipe at a lure at a stream that shall remain nameless - sometimes even I won't drop a spot when there is one that big in plain view. Ha.
