NJ S Branch Raritan Califon Dam and below
Marker Description: The South Branch of the Raritan river above the upper end of the Ken Lockwood Gorge up to the Califon Dam has many easy access pull offs along River Road with many good pools and riffles. This stretch is excellent trout water and many trout from Ken Lockwood gorge run up in this area. This stretch is also stocked for a children's fishing program as well as normally stocked by the NJDFW. There are also reports of trout being caught below the falls as it is difficult for fish to make it over the dam.

Also, reports of pike and pickeral being caught in the lake above and below the falls. Nice stretch to fish. Also, stop in to Shannon's Fly Shop in Claifon, which has an excellent fly selection and a general fishing community feel (spin as well as fly).

Dove along river road and fished at a few locations in the middle of the day with no luck, surprised at some of the deep pools and runs. Water looked great but I had no luck. Stopped into Shannon's Fly Shop and it was a great little shop - they even spotted me a few extra flies I had eight bucks in cash and had picked out 6 flies they are a 1.95 - quality little buggers. Good people in that shop.
