NJ Pequest River, TCA 1/2 Mile
Marker Description: Trout Conservation Area (TCA) regulations apply. Parking along Rte 46 at the sign that reads "1/2 mile to Pequest Hatchery". Good number of trout in this area, well worn trail leads to a large boulder at an island that is a great spot. Very nice run of boulders below and good deep run along the "V" hole a hundred or so yards down.

Heavily trafficked area but full of fish.

Stopped by on my way to meet Xray at the Outflow and there was a guy hovering over some nice fish at the turn and I just turned back around.

Headed down to 1/2 mile after fishing the outflow with my Dad. Hoping to have a little more luck in the deep pools at the boulder and below at the "V" pool. No luck. Fished with a size 20 green bead dropper off a PT. My Dad had no luck as well. The boulder pool has changed a bunch and looks to be washing through on the far side.

New main marker pic. Denis has caught and released another monster - on Memorial Day. This time a fish of a lifetime - 27 inches. The pic doesn't do this fish justice. Caught on a small green bead. Sick, sick, sick. Plus he caught twenty others up to 16.

Fished a bit during the TCA pre-season sometimes called the silly season. For me it was silly for the opposite reason. Except for a fish every cast day at the outflow the lower portion was super slow. The water has been so cold the action has just not turned on. I had to get out of the water because my legs were so cold and I had been fishing in February. Well, so it goes. See my pic of the high cold water almost drowning out the big boulder. This was taken a week or so back but still I've had no luck at all at the 1/2 mile so far.

Fished today above the island with a pink magnet with no luck. Switched to a an orange worm I bought while in London at a fly shop, meaty size 16 shiny orange job with no bead - caught a five inch brownie. Didn't see any fish in the water, water was low and clear. Old man smoking a cigar at the boulder just down from the 1/2 mile sign - there when I got there and there when I left.

Pulled off along Rte 46 where the sign that reads "Pequest Fish Hatchery 1/2 Mile Ahead." Fished with a gold bead tan flashback as well as a PT. I saw a number of small trout as I walked in the water fishing. When I got to the nice boulder hole, very close to the sign mentioned above, I saw a number of flashes in the center of the riffle. Tied on a number of midges and smaller nymphs, with no luck. Finally switched to a gold trout magnet and caught two right along the boulder and what I thought was a classic Pequest big boy but turned out to be a twenty plus suckah! Gave a very lame fight. Decided to walk down to the nice deep run below the V shaped hand rock wall and found a guy with his video equipment set up and his spinning rods all lined up like he was going to camp out on the hole for the evening. I decided to call it quits and when I got back to the road I saw a tan van with a green kayak on top which is pretty much always parked at this location. So, I guess that V-shaped pool must have a few fish in it.

Not this TCA, Claremont. Sorry, was just answering your question here and posted the pic. Should have put it on that marker.
