NJ Pequest River Stream Work Run
Marker Description: This section of the Pequest is hard to get to because you have to either walk down from the foreclosed Island bar lot or walk up from the Mill Road Bridge. On the Buttzville Road side of the river there is cut grass right to the bank so you need to wade from the Rte 46 side, which is not posted. The homes have used large boulders to secure the river bank and also they have placed rocks to create pockets and a great pool - run - pool section that is one of the best that I have seen on the Pequest. When walking up from the bridge I was surprised how deep that slow section was for the Pequest and there are also a bunch of nice boulder in that section as well. There was so much nice water, I did not even make it all the way up to the Rte 31 bridge. But there is a huge man-made "V" at the top portion of the homes. This may have been a flood protection program - regardless it is awesome for fishing. Caught seven al seemed to be stockers save one and all were rainbows, no size.

Found a sweet section of the Pequest. Only downside is the backyard aspect. You have that feeling of being a trespasser/being watched. Be respectful and post if someone tells you to leave. The Rte 46 side is not posted and may be public. At least the upper most section towards Rte 31 is fair game and no back yard aspect to that section above the "V".
