NJ Pequest River Lower Small Falls
Marker Description: The Pequest River "Lower Small Falls" is that last step or falls as the Pequest flows into the Delaware. This is the hole that will back up when the river is high and fish will climb the step to the riffle and run region up to the first dam. I fish this stretch to try and catch trout that run up from the Delaware for cold water refuge and to escape low clarity water when the river is high.

Fished today and walked down from the dam to the junction, took a photo of the first run below the dam and the riffle section. I fished a rappel and a trout magnet and caught one small rainbow and one 12 inch or so brown, both in the riffle section. i did not take a photo of the "small falls" but it is quite a good step and some big rocks - a rock shelf that is slippery. The brown was silverfish and might be a runner from the Delaware but too small to know for sure. We know it was not stocked this year in the Pequest with the rainbows only as a result of the disease at the hatchery. Water was not overly clear but the plant growth was not what I expected, more free stone feel than the river of life section in the TCA.
