NJ Pequest River Canyon
Marker Description: The Pequest River Canyon is pretty sick. It doesn't get too much pressure because it is difficult to walk up from the Water Street side from the 734 Dam area. The opposite bank has a nice four wheeler trail that provides easy access that isn't that well known. Whether you park at the top of the canyon and walk down the four wheeler trail or if you walk up from below you will be pleasantly surprised by the solitude and nice runs.

Added another rating, Pequest Canyon is a one star stretch of the Pequest when you take the fish numbers over the solitude.

Fished this weekend in the Canyon w/ my baby & dog, check out the pic. I had to Baha the baby stroller through a muddy ATV trail to get there. I am surprised how shallow and fishless the middle portion was. I'm not impressed. Got skunked, except for one bow at the top portion.

Fished the extended riffle at the first turn into the canyon. I didn't get a strike.

Fished today and the river was muddy. Caught two rainbows on a small green bead nymph with a forked tail. See photo of nymph - don't know what it is called.

I couldn't see where the holes were because of how muddy the water is. Decided to leave early b/c I had no read on the water.

Fished today and hooked into a twenty plus inch brownie that shook off a few feet from my net. He didn't think I would have let him go. Caught a bunch of trout today. The high water gave that bit of cloud that made the fish active and out in the open in the middle of the day. Canyon was pretty. Saw a father and son worming it and they were having a banner day as well. First time I've seen anyone else while I've been in the canyon. Somewhere down in the canyon, no where near Hollywood ... caught a trout. A. Durst.
