NJ Paulinskill River, Lambert Rd
Marker Description: Paulinskill River is wide and shallow in this stretch. Fallen trees and splits in the stream create the structure for fish. About a one mile hike up from Lambert Road, there is a large pool below Jacksonburg Creek. This pool is a thermal refuge with monster trout. Reports of large numbers of breeders in this pool in summer.

Excellent summer smallie stretch above Lambert, not huge size but great numbers of small nutso fighters.

I decided to take the trek up from Lambert Road in search of monster stockers. In the end I caught about twenty smallmouth bass and too many sunnies to count with a few crappie mixed in. The smallies were generally small but I caught one 13 incher and had a 14 inch smallie give me a great fight with multiple jumps before breaking me off in a tree stump.

Once I made it up to Jacksonburg Creek I was surprised to see that it had almost no water in it. I did find three breeder browns over twenty inches but couldn't get them to strike on anything. They were cruising and not holed up feeding.

Above the Jacksonburg Creek there was a gazebo with fly vests and waders strewn about. I turned back as this is the start of the trout club where these breeders are coming from.
