NJ Passaic River @ Columbia Turnpike
Marker Description: The canoe launch at the Columbia Turnpike offers a place to park via an access road right off the east-bound lane of the turnpike. The access road will take you right up to the river and provides approximately one dozen parking spaces or so.

The brush/bushes along the river on the south side made access along the river very easy. This is one of several stocking locations for the Northern Pike along the Passaic, but it appears to have a good amount of Carp as well.

I stopped by this morning (10/21/2016) on my way to work to try both the north and south sides of the overpass looking for Northern Pike. The water level was very low and murky - lot's of exposed mud on either side of the river. Leaves are starting to build up so my lure would catch a leaf every 3rd or 4th cast.

No action again for me. I came prepared with my heavier rod, reel and 1/2 oz Booyah Blade. Not a bump.

I did see plenty of Carp. A few big splashes near and far and was close enough to one Carp that I could have poked him with the tip of my rod. I even pulled my lure over another Carp who was sitting right in front of me and scared him off - he left a big muddy cloud in his wake.

We need some rain.
