NJ Lower Echo Lake Park
Marker Description: The lower portion of Echo lake is NJ stocked waters (winter stocking as well). Plenty of access points along the north shore if you don't mind being off the beaten path. Towards the water mill (east side) at the damn along the concrete wall, locals tend to stack up the rod count and occupy most of that area, so stay away. Clearly the lake gets crowded, evident but the over abundance of fishing line, bobbers and lures hanging from the overhead tree branches - in some cases you could call it art.

The water is a bit murky and there seems to be some good hiding places with the fallen branches and trees, especially along the north side so fishing could be good if you don't mind the masses during peak season.

I'm back to this local spot again - it's been a few years since my initial bad experience. This time, I'm exposing my 7 y/o daughter to the local lakes and prayed that she would catch something. Catch something she did! She caught 11 Sunny's on worm and hot dogs! Now she's hooked.

I spent my Sunday here (12/8) from 8:30am to about 2:30pm. It was cold (low 30's), overcast and I was one of 3 people fishing the lake. The two locals were at the concrete wall. One local was a 15 y/o kid (who must have lived right around the corner because his mom brought him a hot lunch) with 4 rods in the water. He was bottom fishing with Power-Bait and pulling in one, 16-18" rainbow stocker every 20-30 minutes or so. He had three on his chain and dad had already come and taken two.

I fished the entire north shore with spinners and Rapala lures and caught one 8-10" native brown (that jumped off my line before I got it in the net) first thing in the morning - not another bite all day. I was hoping to snag a winter stocked rainbow to end my dry spell, but I guess I was doing it wrong after all. Power_Bait, sit and wait... no thank you. Fish were probably sitting really low in the water to stay warm, but anytime I let the lures sink I could get hung up. Was not a good time.
