NJ Lopatcong Creek Sewer Pipe Pool
Marker Description: Just below the sewer treatment discharge [the sewer pipe has been moved downstream circa 2014] is a deep hole that is cut from a drain pipe that pours in from a six foot ledge and digs a deep circular hole. There is a walking bridge over the top of the head of the pool. This hole holds a lot of stockers that move downstream in a normal year.

MR caught a nice bow after the Lopat cleared a bit. Check photos. This creek really fishes well when there is some murk to give you some cover. When the stream is clear it is tough going.

Rdeedee - Y caught four nice rainbow stocked fish in four casts, watched him do it, this spot is always a good one, caught them on the old school trusty No. 2 spinner. These new strain rainbows sure like to leap - much harder fighters that the past strain. The sewer pipe has been moved down stream so now this sweet pool is feces free!

Fished today with a trout magnet rapala, without a strike or a flash. This pool is normally an easy multiple trout stop in a few minutes, this close to opening day. I wonder if the common merganser has been at work. I know many will think, I'm just sour grapes for lack of skills. But this pool normally doesn't require skills this time of year.

Took my five year old nephew to sewer pipe pool with a garden worm on a tenkara rod and he hooked an 18 inch thick rainbow on the first cast. Broke him off after about 15 seconds, damn I should not have use the tenkara - I'll be back to take the hook out of that big guys mouth - if I can - he seems to be owning the pool. Never thought a fish could break six pound tippet even with a tenkara - damn I'm ****ed at myself!!

Caught a 17 inch brook trout on my second cast off a gold Panther Martin spinner. The fish struck weak and I didn't know I had a fish on until I had a steady deep throbbing. The fish took out some drag but did not give an amazing fight. It had big fins and had to be a holdover or a fish up from the Delaware given they did not stock the Lopat this year due to the disease issue. I didn't get a great photo b/c I wanted a quick release. It wouldn't be a native b/c the Lopat only has reproducing wild browns to my knowledge. Regardless it was a beaut of a fish. Nothing like catching a beaut right in the defecation stream - ha - awesome creek, good stuff.
