NJ Lamington / Black River
Marker Description: The Lamington River, AKA the Black River, is rumored to be a good trout stream. It has the stained ruddy character of a Pine Barrens stream. The trout population does not appear to be high, but reports have been good for the River.

The marker is placed at a dam on the river, with a nice pool above and below. There are a lot of private property signs above and below the pull off, near the dam, where there is a solid break in private parking signage. It may be best to approach the river by hiking in from the other side off Hacklebarney Road, as the entire eastern side of the river appears to be Hacklebarney Park property. More research is needed on the access in this area.

I tried this same spot one morning and you were right, you can't go very far upstream. Unfortunately these holes didn't yield anything for me either.

Fished nymphs in the black waters and had no luck. Worth trying again for the beautiful surroundings - plus for scenery; negative for fish production. Although, I love fishing in a beautiful place I'd take a sewer outflow with fish for a gnome home piece of paradise with no fish. There are definitely trout here though - it may be that this is my second time fishing this area with no luck and I'm not personally a fan of "black" water. Did you ever ask for branch water and hope for some stain - speaking of branch water, the Black River has Trout Brook just up the road where I have caught a few nice little guys - as if the name didn't give it away already:)
