NJ Hances Brook, Highland Road State Land
Marker Description: Hances Brook off Highland Road is a good location to walk upstream to fish the Hances through State Land. The stream heads up along and through the NJDFG property where pheasants are raised at the Rockport Pheasant Farm. The Hances Brook heads through a swampy area but there are good holes here and there.

The brook heads under Highland Avenue through a tunnel which has blown up a deep bubble pool that holds some good size trout. The designated trout stream is not only designated but supports a healthy populaton of native brookies. ARTIFICIALS ONLY.

Caught three nice little brook trout on a size twenty two black and red splashed bead midge. Also, caught a bunch of minnows. Will come back in the fall to see the trout in full bloom. Still the colors were fantastic. I tried to head upstream but it was very thick and shallow. I had my little dog with me and he was having all sorts of trouble so I headed back without exploring but fifty feet.

Fished below the tunnel and caught none. When standing on the road and looking down I saw at least ten nice brook trout including one that looked to be about fourteen inches, which is a real nice size for a brook as small as the Hances. When I tried to get down the steep and briared banks I slipped and made a ruckus that spooked all the trout. The hole is about five feet deep.
