Fished Stephens State PArk just up from the parking lot with my friend Jim. Didn't realy think we would have much luck but decided to go b/c it was half way between our houses. There were a lot of dog walkers and hikers and what not but no other fishermen. The water was low. We were there for about ten minutes with no luck and then a hatch was on. Flies dropped straight down out of the trees onto the water and then buzzed the surface and fish were hitting them like crazy. The flies were landing on us and they were big - size 14 - and black, but when they were on the surface of the water they looked tan. I immediately tied on a tan big fly and caught a nice rainbow. By the time I landed the fish, the trout stopped hitting the flies like mad and were taking a fly only once ever so often. We fished for about another hour and a half without getting any hits. The hatch was not as strong as it had been for the first ten minutes. Not sure what type of hatch it was. After looking on the internet it looks like it was probably a caddis hatch. But it was weird that the flies seemed to be falling out of the trees. I should have tried a caddis puppa but didn't know what one looked like until I went on the internet. Regardless, it was fun to get at least one. Fish was a 15 inch rainbow - it looks smaller in the photo but it was that big and it was def a recent stocker cause it had almost no front arms.

Fished in the park proper, my Dad caught two on metal and my cousin caught one on a jig ; I got skunked on flies.

Saw a great blue heron that was didn't want to fly away even when I had to come within a few feet to get my fly off a limb.
