Marker Description: The Musconetcong along Route 57 in Mansfield Township, New Jersey, is a NJDF&W trout stocked waters. There are many pull-offs along Route 57 and white stocked waters signs. The Muscie holds natives as well. This particular stretch which begins just when the River can be seen from Route 57 is a slow deep stretch.

Hit the musky today, ended up bumping around and picked up 7 brooks between 16''and 18''and 1 20'' bow all caught on panther martins and roosters, missed many more fish as they would just follow the lure then turn.Tried drifting crawlers but no takers.

I fished this section with my Dad this weekend, I caught one thirteen inch brook trout on a No. 3 Mepps silver spinner. I caught the fish right where this marker is placed. There is a wide pull off from 57 and then a short walk through a reed marsh to the River.

The fish I caught had large fins but was not that beautifully colored, so I'm not sure if it was a true native or whether it was a hold over. It gave a great fight though. My Dad caught a four inch brookie which was definitely a native upstream. We actually kayaked from Mansfield proper in town all the way down here. My Dad caught two other trout along the way.

(2010 DLN 52 trout)
