NJ Musconetcong, Point Mnt TCA
Marker Description: Musconetcong River at Point Mountain is good trout water. This is a beautiful stretch of the Musconetcong River that is trout stocked by the NJDf&W, with nice pools and riffles - boulders, rocks and old growth trees.

Parking at County Route 645/Point Mountain Road Bridge. TCA extends from the Point Mountain Road bridge up to the next bridge. During the time before opening day you can't fish the large pool below the bridge where all the fish are rising.

This section of the Muscie is essentially brown water not the green lush river that the Pequest TCA is... DF&G also don't throw near as many breeders as they do in the Pequest TCA. But there are plenty of trout.

Shannon's Fly Shop is stocking good sized Kamploop rainbows less than 15 inches now and breeders into the fall/winter. Good peeps.

Walked up the trail with my daughter and saw a nice brown taking flies in the first nice rock area. Check my pics dated 09/13/15, I don't think you can see the fish. Also, some nice little small mouth bass were also rising for flies. I didn't have my gear. Then a five pack of mergansers came up from the tail end and all the action stopped.

Stocking will be on April 2nd before opening day. The TCA is never closed to fishing so as long as you don't keep the fish you can have yourself a banner day late on the 2nd and on the 3rd. Have at those little silver rainbows, no big stockers, but there are those holdovers.

Troutpunk that is a pretty rainbow in your photo, looks to be a holdover when compared to other rainbows I've seen this year. Anyway, cool post.

Water lowering in lakes upstream are part of a five year draw down. Musky water levels up and ready for fall stocking - the only place to go for decent flows in NJ for the upcoming fall trout stocking. The Pequest is at clown low levels.

Fished the first few pools up from the bridge with nothing doing. I saw two real nice rainbows caught, one on a midge size 16 and the other on a PT 20 and 23. Woah! No little guys landed by anyone. I only stayed for an hour and had to head out.

The best fly fishing on the Musky now is in the afternoons, but if you can only fish in the mornings size 10 - 18 pheasant tail nymph, or hare's ear in same sizes, scud patterns, caddis emergers - pupa or caddis pupa. pr a bugger will catch fish. Afternoons have had solid hatches of caddis and mayflies. Over n out.
