NJ Musconetcong River, Asbury
Marker Description: The Musconetcong River has two dams - one creates a deep plunge pool the other a more shallow aerated pool, the deep hole is better. There is a trout club just below this area so a lot of trout run up under the dams. Also, NJDF&W stocked. There is some good small mouth bass fishing here as well. The slow stretch above the dam can be good too. The industrial/old mill along the river with a little graffiti under the bridge gives you that old school post industrial Jersey classic feel. The Muscy is a great river anyway.

Took a water temp and decided not to fish. Saw a 20 plus brookie moving slow above the bridge.

Fishes today with my buddy Steve with magnets and metal with no luck. We fished the slow water above the dam and then came down to the bridge. We saw the tail end of a hoot and holler fest where some beer drinking classics caught a 25 plus inch meaty rainbow. Also saw a few little guys lifted up from the bridge. Lots of fishermen on both sides of the bridge but not too much catching for a stocking day.

Fished today with Stanley the Fisherman and I caught one nice rainbow and one nice brookie. Released them. We fished above the dam from the bridge and walked around to the NJDF&G Property by the Musconetcong River Association building. Caught both fish above the dam on Mepps No. 2. We fished under both dams with lures and live minnows. Nothing. There were a number of other fisherman fishing off the bridge and from the bank near the parking area. Many people had four or more fish - lots o killin' but lots o fish none the less.

(2010 DLN 40 trout - 1 native - largest 13" rainbow).

Caught some nice smallies under the deep hole side of the dam. Nothing on the graphite factory side of the dam. Saw some trout above the dam that were surfacing. Didn't have my fly rod. Also I was fishing in the middle of the day. Good spot all in all. It looked good down stream from the dam as well but it's marked as private property - I didn't trespass- where the trout club is I think. We gotta change the NJ law to allow anyone to fish the bed of a stream. I hate feeling like a criminal when I'm just trying to fish.
