NJ Pohatcong Creek, S. Main St
Marker Description: The Pohatcong Creek off South Main Street, exit only off Route 78 in the west bound lane only, it's the exit beteween Bloomsbury and Phillipsburg. This area is heavily stocked and they put some breeders in. It is stocked on Tuesday, closed until 5:00 p.m. This parking area is right in front of a private bridge going back to a farm. The area down stream has some very nice pools including a downed tree with a deep slow area behind it just down from the bridge. Also, some nice holes behind the houses and Italian restaurant down stream. Also the stretch above the bridge veers away from any road access and has a long stretch without any good holes before some really good water that is lightly fished. There are holdovers and natives up there if you will hike for them.

Caught one rainbow downstream close to the next bridge. I came to fish the hole below the Italian restaurant but there were two people there. The nice pool below yielded no fish, I walked down to the next bridge below and caught one. It is amazing how quickly the scene changes, it's all about timing.

Fished today with my girlfriend we got to the stream at about 6:30 and there was nobody parked in the lot. The water was a little high and slightly discolored but as soon as I threw a Mepps below the downed tree below the bridge I got a strike a good flash. I caught a total of 6 trout, 5 rainbows and 1 brookie. All were caught downstream in pools where the water slowed a bit and the fish could hold. I missed a bunch, lots of strikes, lots of fish.
Melissa caught her first trout of the year. Woo hoo. She kept saying that she was getting nibbles but I though she just had split shot bouncing along the bottom. Then she caught the trout on orange Powerbait - a swallow number. When I cleaned the fish it had two round chunks of Power in its stomach. Ha. The two other fish had some small stones and dirt in their stomachs - We did some grilling on three and released the rest. See pic. (2010 DLN 46 trout).
