This is the perfect lake to go on a fishing vacation. Not only is the fishing spectacular on some days, there is a large recreational boating presence and numerous campgrounds and hiking trails in the area. Other popular activities include swimming and kayaking. It's hard to find a more picturesque fishing destination, as the vivid blue water is framed on all sides by the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Targeted species include smallmouth b***, trout and salmon, and pike. The lake also boasts a good population of largemouth b*** and panfish. As the water is crystal clear (visibility down to 20 feet is not uncommon), lighter monofilament or fluorocarbon is a necessity to avoid spooking the fish. Best bets for b*** include rocky humps and dropoffs, and weed flats with sandy or gravelly bottoms. Trout and salmon can be caught by trolling the deeper parts of the lake. Anglers can experience an early-spring perch bite that is out of this world.
