NJ Ken Lockwood Gorge, Lower
Marker Description: Ken Lockwood Gorge is a premier trout stretch of the South Branch of the Raritan River just outside of the Town of High Bridge, New Jersey. It is artificial fly and lure only and catch and release beginning January 1, 2014. Most fisherman here prefer pure catch and release. There are trout here year round.

It is an area with large boulders in the stream and a very beautiful gorge. There is a road that you can drive right up along the stream when the gate is open

Parking: There is a parking area at the lower entrance but the gate is usually closed.

A TU member and Shannon's Fly Shop in Califon stocked the Gorge with browns and rainbows and they spread them out. Very kind. Now the Gorge is a full TCA so it is 100% catch and release.

Fished the lower end on Tuesday Feb 28. The water was low and crystal clear. Spooked more than I caught. Landed a brown and rainbow and lost 3. Nice Midge Hatch coming off. They all hit my midges. Size 20 to 24. Hard to hold the fish on those hooks, but I'd rather hook em and lose em...

Lots of stockies visible. Difficult fishing due to leaves and wind last few days. Had some luck with smaller flies in bright colors.

I fished the Lower End of the Gorge this morning. The Thunderstorms at 5:00 A.M. ruined my day. Planned on a big day and only landed 6 browns and lost a few (One decent rainbow got away). Was still a beauty day outside, but the South Branch was murky. Till Next time!

I fished the lower end of the gorge at 2:00 oclock or so and go skunked. Had a nice 15 or so inch trout follow in my jig. But I guess I suck cause I didn't catch at least one fish:(
