NJ Island Beach State Park, 17
Marker Description: This area of Island Beach State Park at parking lot no. 17 has a sand bar about 100 feet from shore that runs mostly parallel to the shore for several hundred yards. If bait washes over the sand bar into the trough on the shore side, the stripers and blues will follow them in and can create fast action for several hours, even several days.

Heard good reports for IBSP for the past week and a half, so I decided to cash in. Headed to the end of the paved road and started to walk down to the pocket. After talking to about a dozen other fishermen who caught little to nothing, I decided to turn around and head up the beach. Stopped at area 17, where there was spotty action for blues. I scratched out three in the 6-8 pound range in about two hours.

Lots of people out today, but beach conditions were tough. Surf was fine, but the south wind was chilly, and it was really howling. Casting with anything but metal was difficult. Still there were fish around. Been catching nothing but little stocked trout lately; felt good to go up against some fish with some shoulders for a change.
