NJ Delaware River, Trenton Dam
Marker Description: Delaware River along Rte 29 in Trenton. There are two dams, which are both good small mouth and striped bass spots. You can park along the grass in a dirt pull-off. There is a steep 10 foot cement embankment but there are two tree-stand like ladders that allow you safe access down to the river. The tree stand like ladders have been around so long that they are grown into the trees - see pic. In the summer, you can catch small mouth bass on every cast in this area it is truly hot. Also beautiful at night with the lights of the city and the reflection of the red lighted letters of "Trenton Makes the World Takes" from the classically named bridge downstream. Sorta funny that the bridge hasn't been renamed seeing as it has been the other way around for many years.

Fished on Saturday, just took a few casts, the river was up but not chocolate milk, the water looked great over the dam and down through the next two riffles. I had a nice small mouth bass on but it tossed by lure on the fourth jump. Small mouth bass are pound for pound the craziest fresh water fighting fish.

I've been beaten by more smallies then any other fish.

Fished the Delaware River dams in Trenton yesterday and had one nice sized small mouth bass on but it jumped out of the water and spit my No. Panther Martin. The bass was about 13 inches. I also missed a tiny small mouth. So, I got skunked. The nice thing is that there is now a pull off from Route 29 and a dirt road which allows fisherman to park there car off Route 29.

The water was a little high and somewhat murky but the water looked very good. It was surprising that I did not get more action but it was cold and windy. I fished below both falls and worked my lure for quite some time. I also fished below the last small falls where the Assunpink Creek flows into the river. The Assunpink was muddy and there was no action at the confluence.
