NJ Delaware & Lopatcong Creek
Marker Description: Delaware River and Lopatcong Creek junction pool. This is a good spot for striped bass. Also, some large trout from the Lopatcong Creek hang in this pool.

This is primarily a stiper spot and it is not that heavily fished because it is a good walk across the railroad tracks and down a steep embankment to get to the river.

Fishermen use eels and live suckers for the best luck.

Tried new deep diving rainbow trout trout magnet rap aka lure for striped bass. Hooked a 16 inch smallie I didn't land and another smaller smallie Ii had on for a short jump and a little walleye, no strikers but I did have a few other head shake strikes, the lure goes very deep, when you stop reeling it floats up as a suspending bait, could be a true winner when U learn to fish it, this bad boy can hug the bottom.

Fished yesterday and the height of the incoming Lopat to the Delaware was finally perfect but the Lopat reconstruction made the water thick and brown which was churling into the more clear Delaware. the opposite of what makes this a good spot normally. Since I had already parked and had my dog I walked down from the tressle and casted for a half hour with no luck, the churl water was still nice and cold, maybe have to wait until the weekend when the dust settles.

Fished for stripers with a rapala. Tried the Lopat around the bridge on the tip from Kenny but nothing doing. Once out on the Big D I fished the cool water at the drift line. On the tenth cast I hooked into the small striper in the pic, probably about 14 inches. Fish nearly spooled me on 4 pound test and a half spool of line. Glad I didn't hook into a big one, shouldn't have been fishing that tackle. I'll be back with a bigger rod with heavier line.

The last few weeks the Delaware was way up and I talked to a buddy who fishes the mouth of the Lopat a lot and he said that he had a 24 inch brown that straightened his hook and caught a thirty six inch stiper on the next cast. He was fishing the clear water just above the railroad tressle. Sick, I am now a believer and the next big Big D water level increase I will be there. Game on fools. Striper caught on a big night crwaler, he said he could see the fish chasing trout before he tossed it to him. Monster brown and monster striper in two casts. Nice!

We finally got some rain and I decided to head down to the Delaware where the Lopatcong Creek runs into the Delaware. The sewer treatment water was creating quite a grey cloud.

I was fishing a 3 inch rapala hoping for some small mouth or a striper. Surprised into a brookie stocker, gave a pretty good fight. That was my first trout from this location. I have heard stories of people catching good sized hold overs but it is suprising that this little stockie with mangled fins and no color made it down to the Delaware given the low water since opening day.

Also, a shad boat was anchored along the bubble line and they caught a few nice shad when I was there.

Check the pic of the brookie on the big rapala - poor guy. Released to be future bait for a striper.

The Lopat is running clear and the Delaware is low and clear. The Lopat is running into the Delaware tight along the bank and pushing cold water up along the East Bank. It looked fantastic but I had no luck fly flishing. Wish I had brought some big rapals or lures. No strikes.

Heard that a few fisherman have been using trout purchased from the Owl's Nest on 519 for stripers and have had some success. As soon as the River goes down from Irene, I will go out and give it a try.

It looks very good where the cold Lopat mixes in along the bubble line. I wonder if I had a nice striper or a catfish on that I lost earlier in the season. I have yet to catch a striper in Warren County but... keep fishing.
