Fished today for trout in Columbia Lake. I was in my kayak and I paddled all the way up under three bridges and into a narrow slowed up area where it becomes more of the Paulinskill than Columbia Lake. I caught one rock bass. So, needless to say the reports of Columbia Lake for good trout fishing were greatly exagerated - at least as I found it. However, I was fishing in the middle of the day.

I spoke to a number of other fisherman who were fishing in canoes and small boats. Nobody was having any luck except for one husband and wife who caught a good number of bass early in the morning.

The area closest to the dam is deep and looks good but the lake is rather shallow as it approaches the second bridge.

All in all I was not a huge fan.

Took a few casts with a spinner today, spent most of my time below the dam fishing the Paulins Kill. Didn't catch anything in either spot. I have heard that Columbia Lake is stocked with big trout and that if you take a boat/canoe or kayak you can do very well after opening day. I plan on giving it a try.
