NJ S Branch Raritan, Claremont
Marker Description: The Claremont stretch of the South Branch of the Raritan River is a year round TCA. It is my understanding that they do not stock this stretch anymore as it has a large population of native trout. There are many natives to be had here as well as some large hold-overs. If you don't like people rubbing your shoulders as you are fishing a hole, this is the place for you.

We need rain BADLY.I am amazed how much the water level has dropped in a week and a half. I went out early this morning before work for 3 hours and only managed four... 3 browns and a nice brookie. I did see a 20"+ in the bridge pool, but he saw me too and I couldn't entice him with anything.

This is the biggest native NJ brook trout I have ever seen, much less caught. My hand is 8" from palm to fingertip, and this fish hung over almost 3". I didn't take it out of the water to really measure, but it was close to 11".

Caught 10 and lost 2 wild browns and Brookies today. Tried to avoid the mayhem in the stocked waters. there were still more people here today than normal and I found some hooks with worms on them in the trees....

Fished today and there were some nice fish holding tight to the banks but I had no luck getting any of them to strike. Didn't fish a lot of the water but walked downstream from the lot to a really nice deep pool with a walking bridge at the head. No luck but the water looked very nice in spots.

Fished here Saturday 1/28/2012. Two wild browns on a prince and a midge. Trout were slurping the surface continously. Had to be midges, but I couldn't match them

Thanks Dave. They were real nice browns. The larger one's ranged from 19 to 21 inches. Rain in the forcast, but hopefully I get out again soon!
