Wanted to take a few cast for today's stocking but it was washed out. The road leading in was flooded with 3 or so inches of water. See my pic labeled 4/15/14. The USGS gage height ( http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?01446000 ) for the Beaver Brook today was just about 2.8 - good future mark for high and off color- the gauge height is not dropping so it might be a day or so for it to clear. The Beaver Brook usually clears up quickly though even when the gauge is high, so who knows. Probably won't make it up tomorrow to see.

Stopped in for opener 2013 after starting out at the Pequest in the center of Town in Belvidere. There was a large man on the new bridge and he was complaining and saying that they hadn't stocked. My Dad and I bull****ted with him for a while and he left. Another guy told us that largie had just reeled in an eighteen inch trout minutes before we showed up and had been there cleaning up all morning. Gotta love a classic douche like that. Anyway, like always some nice breeders were stocked in Pond Hole. We had no action, stayed for a half hour and couldn't get anything started with magnets and lures.

Got to the Pond Hole and two guys were fishing off the new bridge, they had a bucket of fish and said they each hooked nice breeder rainbows, one spit the hool and the other broke the line, this is definitely a spot that the State puts some big ones in - it looks like a spot I'd dump a breeder if I was in charge of stocking. I caught three one good size rainbow about 14 inches and two little natives about six inches all on a dropper pheasant tail nymph. I was psyched to catch the natives. All released.

Hooked a mega monster something on a yellow trout magnet that took me to the tail end of the pool and was screaming off line and ran towards me - I had the fish on for a good four minutes, what with my 2 pound test there wasn't much I could do, the fish never surfaced but i fought like a trout - the fish got off and I reeled in my magnet with the tail bitten off. Damn, of course I think it was that 30 plus rainbow I had on three or so weeks ago... I would feel real sick except for catching a lunker today down at Sarepta Road - what can you do.

Fished the pond hole and met another old man fishing from a chair and he heard they put a seven ponder in this hole - the one I missed! Me and my Dad fished the pond hole and above in the meadow. THe water was a little stained and still very high. My Dad caught one the final fish of his 26 trout b-day spectacular he turned 68 today.

Finally struck gold at pond hole. Caught five trout on spinners and trout magnets. Also, had 30 plus lunker rainbow on - No. 1 Mepps. Struck and then came to the surface flashed and rolled - spit the hook. What! MONSTER. Headed upstream and caught five more. The meadow area above pond hole is loaded, didn't even go too far up - walked back down to try to entice the lunker but to no avail.

That fish will haunt me!!!

Fished today and caught five sun fish. Saw a few bass chasing my lure but no strikes. There has to be some nice trout in the depths, it looks to be eight feet deep or so.

Maybe a live minnow.
